Facts You Should Know About Tai Chi

The popularity of tai chi is undeniable. More than 2.5 billion people in 150 countries practice this graceful form of exercise regularly, with more than 2.5 million Americans practicing alone. Originally developed in China as a form of self-defense (Chinese boxing), tai chi has become known as a mind-body exercise that improves balance, cardiovascular health, depression, pain, sleep, and a host of medical conditions from cancer to Parkinson’s Disease. It’s no wonder tai chi has become one of the most popular exercises in the world.

 

Like other popular exercises, it is important to get the facts about tai chi to fully enjoy the benefits and avoid injury. Although gentle and lower risk than many other forms of exercise, tai chi should be approached using knowledge and the mind first, and the body second. So let’s start with what tai chi means.
