Tai Chi and Weight Loss

Posted on February 10, 2015 by Bay Area Tai Chi

Despite slow movements, tai chi does burn calories. However, the amount of calories burned will depend on how much you weigh and how much effort you put into tai chi. In general, an individual weighing 125 pounds may burn around 240 calories per hour practicing tai chi. A 155 pound person may burn 300 calories. Add a healthy diet, and you have the perfect recipe for steady, safe, and sustainable weight-loss.

To get started with tai chi, try a tai chi center in your area or the program at your local YMCA, health club, community center, or senior center. You will also find a number of excellent DVDs on the market, but it’s best to start with classes so that a live instructor is there to help you master proper form.
